Nokia's CEO says to expect Symbian updates up until 2016 at the earliest

For those of you worried that your Symbian flavored Nokia phone will become obsolete the second that the first model with Windows Phone 7 inside is shipped, we have some good news. Saying that there is, "a long history still to be paved for Symbian in the future," the Finnish-based firm's CEO, Stephen Elop, said that the manufacturer will continue to push out updates for the OS until 2016 at the earliest.

Elop didn't say how long Nokia will continue to churn out Symbian powered phones, but it is clear that Nokia is putting all of its chips down on Windows Phone 7, much the way that Motorola decided to make Android its future just before it delivered the DROID. One major difference is that Elop's company had earlier said that it will still sell 150 million handsets using the Symbian OS before fully committing to Microsoft's mobile OS.
